The other day, I was watching one of Denise Wakeman‘s excellent videos on blogging. She was talking about Technorati and recommended paying it a visit to find relevant content in your niche. I was grateful for the tip, as I had completely forgotten about this excellent website.
Despite being the absolute powerhouse in the blogging industry, a lot of people still have not heard of Technorati. So, today, I want to introduce the website to you.
What is Technorati?
Simply put, Technorati is the leading and most comprehensive blog search engine and directory in the Blogosphere, as well as a full service media company working with blogs and social media sites.
People interested in adding their blogs to Technorati must follow a specific process. Once accepted, they will be ranked according to their authority.
Authority
Authority is a site’s standing and influence in the blogosphere. Usually, Technorati checks the number of unique blogs linking to your own blog in the last few months. Whenever you gain a new link from another blog, your authority and ranking will increase.
So the higher the number, the bigger the authority. Blogs like Mashable and Social Media Examiner rank really high on Technorati. This is not surprising, considering how fantastic they are.
Benefits of claiming your blog on Technorati
Exposure, exposure, exposure! If you own a blog or website, and would like other people to find you, Technorati is an excellent resource to drive targeted traffic.
A year or two ago, I deleted a blog that I was not updating anymore due to lack of time. However, during my time on Technorati, I received a lot of quality traffic. Visitors who had used the website to find me came back all the time and left comments.
Unfortunately the “claiming” process has changed and I have not been able to add my blogs for unknown reasons…
Benefits of using Technorati to find other blogs
Simply put, Technorati is THE bomb when it comes to finding relevant content in your niche, including articles, pictures and videos. I like to call it “Digg with a superior edge”! I have discovered the blogs and websites of some of the most respected experts on the Internet.
Technorati gives you the opportunity to get educated, connect with great people and grow your brand. Visit Technorati when writer’s block hits you and you will find ideas for new articles in no time!
The website also features some very interesting content of its own, including ”State of the Blogosphere,” an annual series that chronicles the rise and evolution of the Blogosphere.
Now that you know about Technorati, why don’t you try it? Click here to start.
