Every user of free WordPress blogs goes through this: each time an application is available as a script, WordPress will not let us add it. I love WordPress, but the platform can be quite frustrating at times.
In this blog post, I will share a few tricks to help you make your free WordPress blog more interactive.
The solution is shortcodes, WordPress-specific codes that you add in your posts and that can be used for different purposes. For example, you can create an archives page or a page with a contact form; make all your posts available as extracts on your blog; and add a Tweet button, like the one at the top of this article.
So, how does it work?
NB: I am now using the paying version of WordPress (WordPress.org). In this case, plugins replace most shortcodes. And I removed the archives page.
You can choose to have your posts archived weekly, monthly, etc. For more information, and a list of the main shortcodes, visit http://en.support.wordpress.com/shortcodes/.
Now, how can a user of the free WordPress platform can get more traffic if he or she cannot add a per-post share button? Problem solved with GetSocial Live! Type the post title, copy and paste the permalink (the link to your post), choose the design, and press GetSocial. Then, copy and paste the HTML code in the HTML of your post. Finally, publish.
