In the first part of the Press Kit Series, I shared some tips on how to write a professional bio. Today’s article is dedicated to product presentation.
Artists can create two types of press kits:
–Product press kit to promote their new release.
–Artist press kit to promote their career.
In both cases, special attention must be paid to the way products are presented. A well-organized sheet should only include things the reader needs in order to gain a basic understanding about your book, CD or DVD. Here are some major elements to include:
–Title of product
–Name of author / recording artist and composer(s)
–Genre
–Publisher / Record label
–Release Date
–ISBN / UPC
–Price
–Track listing (CD)
–Summary
–Link to trailer
–Four or five excellent reviews (from influent people in your field, if possible)
While it is recommended that a product sheet should not exceed one page, exception may be made with a one-product press kit. A second page can be added to include extracts.
For an example of product sheet, you can download the press kit I have created for my latest book, titled Five Years and Counting. A Journey into the Mind of Soul Poetry.
