7 Rules for Perfect Press Releases

Have you ever written a press release? If you have, you know how challenging that can be! However, with practice and good advice, the challenge is soon overcome. Today, I am sharing an article that will help you in your promotional endeavors…

Press releases are the best way to get media attention. If done properly, they will bring a lot of traffic to your products or website. So, you should use them.

April Dunford, a blogger at Rocket Watcher, gives us the basic ingredients to write a powerful and effective message. “7 Rules for Perfect Press Releases” is truly a very educational post. My favorite pieces of advice are: “provide valuable content” and “make it worth talking about”.

“Nearly every startup I have worked with has been nervous about writing press releases.  Lack of experience is one reason but people also think there are a set of secret rules to writing one “properly.”  I’m also hearing startups say they believe press releases are irrelevant in an age of social media.  I disagree.   The majority of press releases really stink but they stink because they are written like we wrote them 15 years ago.  A modern press release can be a valuable marketing tool for startups and I believe anyone can create a great one.  Here’s how:”

    Awesome event promo tips, Cendrine!

I did a webinar at the end of 2011 entitled "Virtually Fantastic Event Promos" so it's great to connect with someone who shares my passion for this topic. :)

I find where so many entrepreneurs and online marketers miss the mark is with "Promotion". They're creating blog posts, articles, podcasts, virtual events, etc. that are fabulous … but they fall short in knowing how to spread the word and get their content shared.

    You rock!

It all boils down to your self-education, in my mind. As a journalist and independent artists, I have seen awesome talent being totally disregarded by both audiences and the traditional media because they had not done their due diligence.

I have three upcoming social media classes on the topic. I do hope I can help struggling entrepreneurs get the message that promotion is an art that requires smart work. ;-)

Thank you for stopping by, Melanie!
