5 more tips to increase blog traffic

In a previous article, I shared 12 tips to increase blog traffic. Since then, I have received a few emails from people asking me if I could give some more. I am happy to comply with another five!

Write series of short articles

In this day and age, people do not have time to read. They are too busy. So help them: Make your content short and sweet! Write series of short articles (550-600 words) to build engagement and anticipation — especially in the case of interviews.

Be grateful when people share your articles

How do you build up a loyal audience? Through trust and respect. While it is a wonderful achievement when an influencer shares your articles, “mighty oaks from little acorns grow,” as they say. Never look down on someone who only has a small group of followers. First, it is very unprofessional. Second, you never know who they may know.

Autopost extracts from your articles on your website

If you own several blogs, why not share extracts of your articles on your website? This is something that I do with my own network. I use the WPeMatico WordPress plugin, which allows me to autopost content from the RSS feeds of my choice. I love it.

Autoposting extracts with links to your original articles (backlinking) is a great way to improve the visibility of your blogs in search engines.

Use IntenseDebate to generate interaction

Interaction is the bread and butter of a blog. Even if only a small amount of readers leave comments under your articles, it is important to make them happy. And this is exactly the purpose of IntenseDebate. The third-party service is a breathe to use, as it is fully integrated with your admin panel. People can use their Twitter, Facebook and OpenID account to share their thoughts and bloggers receive email alerts as soon as someone leaves a new comment.

Consider guest blogging

Whether you choose to write for other people’s blogs or have people write for your own, guest blogging will help establish your name, boost your reputation and create valuable backlinking. It is actually one of the most effective methods to increase blog traffic.

A friend of mine often says, in order to grow your community, you start by playing around in other people's communities first. In other words, get out there and comment on other blogs. Connect. Share. Be helpful.

Do that often enough, and you'll start to earn and audience that consistently engages with and shares your stuff.

      Absolutely!

Indeed. It's very frustrating (to me) when I receive emailed submissions of guest blog posts, sometimes their complete article, but their name is completely new to me. If you don't interact on the site, why should you write an article for the site?

Agree with you Ricardo! Being helpful is one of the most important things that I've learned from a popular blogger who now makes a living in blogging. He said that "solving problems" would be the best topic for a blog.

These days, people don’t have much patience. I always believe in short articles and that’s what most of us like reading as well.

      Indeed, Jane!
