4 free tools to stay on top of things in your niche

latest news

So many people blog these days that it is very difficult to keep an eye on everything. I do my best to read as many articles as I can during the day, but it can be very challenging. So, to save myself some precious time, I use a convenient hub from where I can access all the important content in my area of expertise: my Inbox!

I currently use four great tools and I want to share them with you.

Influential blogs’ newsletters

I always subscribe to influential blogs in my niche. It is a great way to know what the most prominent bloggers are talking about. Their content also gives me great ideas for my own articles.

Google News

“Google News is a computer-generated news site that aggregates headlines from more than 4,500 English-language news sources worldwide, groups similar stories together and displays them according to each reader’s personalized interests.”

Instead of spending hours checking Google News every day, I let Google Alerts send me emails with the latest results based on specific keywords. I have used the service for years and really like it.

Topsy

Topsy is a real-time search engine that indexes and ranks results based on the most influential conversations on Twitter about particular topics. It only displays the most relevant content. It is then very easy to set up notifications through email, RSS feed or Twitter.

Notify.me

I discovered Notify.me when I started working as a freelance journalist and reviewer for Examiner.com. I add RSS feeds to my account and the service sends me an email every time there is a change in the feeds.

The best part about Notify.me? Being able to add links to pages that have no feed but that are updated regularly. Notifications can be sent anywhere: instant messenger, mobile phone, email, desktop or web application.

Do you know any other tools? Feel free to share them in the comment section below.
